Kim Cogan is a modern day oil painter that believes that the art of painting is not dead, and in fact can be incorporated into a modern day setting. His paintings seem like photographs displaying his excellent painting skill. Through his powerful imagery he delineates modern day structures which dominate the landscape. As if painting a scene from Rome or Florence he captures the inner city life of New York, but in a vacuous almost abandoned way. His bridges are reminiscent of the forgotten aqueducts of Rome in the Dark Ages, standing as monuments of human engineering, celebrating them for their grand scale but also depicting them as sort of run down and in disrepair. Kim Cogan is truly an Old-Master of the Modern Genre, his perspective and shading ability is superb like artist of the past, veering away from abstraction while maintaining powerful imagery.
