Francesco's art is mind boggling. Looking into it is like a journy revealing more and more shapes and colors. He uses oils and acrylics, spray paint and silkscreen as well as layered epoxy resin and gold leaf, usually on a wood base. His color selection is what really pulls me in, using vibrant colors which are seem to have become as staple of the 21st century.
Bob Trotman uses his art to rebel against the business world which he finds so boring. through his use of sculpture he protests against the money oriented capitalists that would sell their own mothers for a profit. To Trotman life is more than a bottom line, it is an opportunity to express oneself and to experience everything the world has to offer, not get bogged down wearing a suit every day being harassed by impatient greedy bosses who give no regard to the human spirit.
The trial between Whistler and Ruskin hints towards a turning point in art. Ruskin’s harsh criticism of Nocturne in Black and Gold only added to the controversy of the piece and emphasized its rebellious nature. Although the Whistler is not recognized as one of the great modern artists, his feud with Ruskin brings to light many fundamental ideas of modern art itself.
Jed Henry's Ukiyo-e Heores collection combines the traditional style of Japanese Ukiyo-e wood cuts with the subject of modern day video games and T.V shows. It is a fantastic combination of high art and low art (although I think some of the video game themes count as high art) in an impressive revival of an old art style.
